AI Classroom Technology Policy

- Students should use and care for school owned devices properly. Ipads are to be used for educational and academic purposes only. Ipads are expensive and the students need to care for them as if they are their own. If broken student is responsible for the cost of the fix. Students need to understand that coming to school with a charged ipad or a charger to charge their ipad with is their responsibility since the ipads are a tool in the classroom. If this student doesn't come to class with an ipad charged they will get a warning, if a student gets 3 warnings in a month they will have to turn their ipad into the library to be charged during the lunch period.
- During the school day phones are to remain in backpacks or lockers. In order to learn, students need to be focused in class and connecting with peers. If a phone is out you get one warning to put it away. If it is seen again the teacher will put it on their desk for the rest of class. It is the students responsibility to remember to collect it after class.
- Students respect copyrights, It is important to credit others for their work. Students can avoid plagiarism by meeting with their teacher to double check the cited sources. If a student turns in plagiarized work they will be given a warning and asked to redo the assignment to get a zero. On a second time there will be a notice sent home for parents to sign. On third infraction parents will be called in for a meeting.

- Generative AI (chat GPT, Copilot, snapchat AI, ect) is only to be used with permission which will be given clearly during the directions of an assignment. When it is used it needs to be cited at the end along with a description of how it was used. If these guidelines are not followed the same consequences as plagiarism will be followed.
- Students should understand that the school wifi has browser blockers. The wifi will block browsers that have shown to be inappropriate. This includes any disrespectful or discriminatory remarks. Students need to be focused on academics during the day while at school.
- Students need to know that cyber bullying is real and has the same consequences that bullying has. To do their best learning, students need to feel safe at school and around their peers. If a student is found bullying another student online a notice will be sent home to parents and on second infraction parents will be asked for a meeting and student will be given after school detention.
- Students should not share passwords. Digital security is a real issue. To keep the students safe they must protect their password. Students also must not use others passwords to get into others profiles. The students profile is their online locker. It is a personal space that is meant for them only.

Reflection on Educational Technology Policy
The first time I wrote this technology policy, I mostly just wrote my thoughts down and tried to remember what my schools policies were. When I updated it for this assignment I realized that the consequences were unclear. I clarified them to make sure that the students understand why it's wrong to not follow the guidelines and what will happen if they don’t. Through this class I got to learn more about AI use and I added in a policy about it. This class showed me that sometimes AI can be a helpful tool but I shouldn't be used to replace a teacher. In my experience, lots of students use AI more as a crutch than a tool. Because of this I added in an AI policy along with the consequences. At the start of the semester I didn’t think much about technology use. Now I have learned that technology is used in most classrooms but teachers must be intentional with their use to make sure that the technology is benefiting student learning. Other than AI my technology policy stayed constant. This class showed me that i am pretty aligned with the new educational technology and i have classroom experience as a student to be able to say how well they work.
